DJs IN THE TENT! From world fusions to Techno, House and Drum n Bass – a dance party not to be missed with a world class Techno Ceilidh.....
Headlining our Dance Party are Dawn Raid who are DJ Kingsize & A.D.T feat. MC B.I.C. They are a Jungle/Drum n Bass collective based in the UK’s city of Manchester. They are also the label owners of drum & bass music imprint Hocus Pocus Recordings.
Dawn Raid’s style of DJ set can simply be referred to as straight up dancefloor, with a musical edge! This is due to all the artists in the collective having a shared experience in DJ/MC performance and production spanning the past 15 years from jungle as it was back in the mid 90’s, to its present day drum & bass format. Combined with a real passion for the music, and the scene since it’s inception in the early 90s, Dawn Raid seek to deliver live performances that represent the full spectrum of Jungle/DnB from its beginnings to the present day. They do not limit themselves to current trends and always encompass the genre in its many forms, from deep and rolling, to big tear out tracks... always with a strong reference to the core elements and origins.
DJ & Producer, Emma Clair's set will feature feel good vintage inspired house music married with infectious piano hooks, jackin' grooves and sounds from around the world.
Emma Clair has built her name on one major underpinning belief - “music should be fun”. This isn't to say Emma's music isn't serious, always focused on delivering quality original music with her own colourful flavour. Having traversed different genres over the years from Emma's early days as a Hard House DJ then evolving into a leading presence within the electro swing scene, these musical evolutions truly embody the spirit of Emma Clair as a passionate music loving aficionado to bring her to where she is today. Emma has released on some of the most reputable dance music labels across multiple genres including Dirty Volt Music, Electro Swing Thing, Freshly Squeezed Music, Prohibition and most recently Trax Recordings which saw her debut House release land inside the Beatport Top 30.
DJ extraordinaire & Techno Cèilidh specialist, nobody really knows where DJ Elsie came from, but legend has it that she emerged from the sea as a lump of granite off the West Coast of Scotland. Having trained as a pianist from a young age, Elsie became hooked on nuanced harmonic-melodic interplay and energizingly intricate polyrhythm. Thanks to her Scottish lineage, Elsie was lucky enough to fling herself into a few Cèilidhs as a child, and this sense of collective rhythmic abandon was later recapitulated through falling headfirst into the legendary Leeds-based ‘techno Mecca’ The Orbit during the early 00’s. With this inferno of inspiration well and truly ablaze, Elsie learned to DJ and went on to study electronic music production before taking a 16-year hiatus to raise a family and do a load of other stuff along the way.
About those kilts… Having started to facilitate Cèilidh dancing for special occasions, one day an idea arrived out of the ether: “Techno + Cèilidh = Techno Cèilidh”. Obviously, it made complete sense. Counteracting the pandemic of kick drum and hi-hat deprivation, the Techno Ceilidh of Elsie’s imagination has now taken living, breathing, 3-dimensional shape at Tent People HQ, spread like wildfire around the High Peak and last time we checked it had gone intergalactic.
Belek fine-tuned their passion and skill for electronic music and world fusions during the great lockdown of 2020/21. During this time they met the Tent People during a Manchester International Festival training event and the rest is history... Belek has been performing at Tent People pop up events during Spring/Summer 2022 and will be opening the Festival Sessions Dance Party with funky house, electronic grooves and world music infusions.
